The fertile plain of Saria Oeste, located in the inner estuary of the Oria, is a space included in the Natura 2000 Network and declared a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) Ría del Oria (Code ES2120010), for several of the habitats of interest it encompasses: Atlantic salt meadows (Code 1330) and alluvial forests of alder and ash trees (Code 91E0*). Despite the fact that this wetland has suffered from human intervention (draining and organic soil input for crops and overexploitation of fishing resources, elvers), it retains its own environmental characteristics of great interest which have been improved with the restoration project.
The Tuffenmoos is a mountain pine bog with an open raised bog core. The eastern part of the bog is undisturbed, the western part has been peat-covered between 1 and 2 m deep. Two deep ditches ran in this peat-covered bog area, which drained the remaining peat body, promoted further peat decomposition and prevented the reintroduction of the typical raised bog inhabitants.
To counteract these negative effects, the landscape conservation association carried out numerous restoration measures in 2010 with funding from the climate program. The peat bog was cleared of woody plants and rewetted with peat dams (supported by wooden structures).... more

As there is no longer a natural flood dynamic on the Lech due to strong human influence, there is no longer a dynamic on the Lechleiten either. Slides are not occurring, the sites "age" and change from "location for specialists" to "home for generalists". Spruce for example has spread rapidly on the Lechleiten slopes in recent decades. The problem here is that due to the emerging competition, species that are valuable from a nature conservation point of view, such as yellow lady's slipper, swamp gladiolus, gravel saxifrage and many more, cannot withstand this pressure and are becoming locally extinct. The abandonment of rural (forest)... more
The water authority Rosenheim improved the ecological status of the Attel by creating a meandering riverbed with altering waterbody widths and slope angles. Furthermore the riverbed has been widened.
The municipality of Lasarte - Oria has suffered numerous and catastrophic floods due to the flooding of the Oria River. In order to avoid future risks the river was channeled in 1995 but this necessary action had a negative environmental impact on the destruction of river habitat and degradation of spaces next to the river by various industrial settlements. The challenge was to naturalize the channeling wall without it losing its protective function while recovering the vegetation riverside and a green river park was created;
Just under 1.5 hectares of the raised bog area are currently being restored to a halfway original state by thinning out the woods - with the consent of the five owners of the site who are foregoing firewood in favor of nature. This "raised bog restoration" is being carried out in consultation with the District Office (Lower Nature Conservation Authority) and the Government of Upper Bavaria under the expert guidance of Dr. Helmut Hermann.
Below Peißenberg, the connections of the old arms and flood channels with the river Ammer were interrupted. The resulting siltation tendencies at the dry falling old waters as well as the missing flooding of the alluvial forest lead to a creeping deterioration of the natural habitats. Only a few remnants of alluvial forest are preserved at the Ammer. Due to the prevented flooding, the tree species composition changes from the original grey alder forest to ash silver willow communities. By diverting several spring streams and connecting them to a system of former flood channels and still existing old waters of the Ammer, the WWF Germany... more
Between Ottobeuren and Westerheim the Günz has never been regulated and therefore a good example for a natural river course. In order to maintain or improve the good ecological status the water authority Kempten has set up a river development plan. Priority is given to the self-dynamic development of the Westliche Günz and its banks. The main goal is to provide the stream with 15 m wide bank strips on both sides. Here the water has room to shift further and offers areas for the preservation and development of a floodplain forest, an important goal in the Flora-Fauna-Habitat-Area (FFH) Westliche Günz.

The Haarmoos in the Salzach-Hügelland natural area is the last large litter meadow landscape in the Berchtesgadener Land and the largest meadow breeding area in south-eastern Bavaria. In order to preserve the partly highly endangered species and habitats, the LBV has purchased over 50 hectares of nature conservation areas. This prevented the drainage and intensification of the wet meadows and fens. Furthermore, ponds filled with groundwater were created on LBV areas. These are important habitats for meadow breeders, amphibians and water insects. To protect and preserve the habitats, the wet meadows are mowed once or twice a year by farmers... more
HYBRID NBSs: Combination of biological measure (reforestation) /engineering measures (check dams, guiding dikes) and social measures (reducing human disturbance)
