In order to be able to implement the measures for the implementation of the EU Water Framewor Directive and to achieve an ecological improvement along the Günz a water development concept was drawn up. The main objectives are to restore the linear passability of watercourses, to enable self-dynamic development of the river, to improve the structure of the water body and to re-establish the connection of the Günz with the floodplain.The project area is located directly at the confluence of the western and eastern Günz rivers. The measures are located on a compensation area of the Federal Republic of Germany. At the confluence of the Western and Eastern Günz, the course of the Eastern Günz will be lengthened and structures will be created by flattening the banks. At low water, the river concentrates on a small channel. In addition, the theory of the Instream River Training is applied. This means special ramp construction methods in the river bed are used to produce secondary flows. In this way, the river bed and the bank can be stabilized. In addition woods (especially willows) are planted  to prevent erosion. The use of armourstones is avoided as far as possible.
