    Solution ID
    Description of solution
    Summary (Challenges; Objectives)

The aim is to restore the site and enhance its value, in particular through the reappropriation of the peat bog by the local inhabitants. The Pédestarrès peat bog is a site of high value for the conservation of biodiversity: one of the rare domed peat bogs in the Pyrenees characterised by habitats of priority interest, threatened species and a major functional role. It is also a site of exceptional scientific interest in terms of palynology, which has made it possible to trace the history of the vegetation of the Pyrenees over the last 27,000 years.

    Technical characteristics

From an ecological point of view, it is a question of restoring the conditions for the development of activity, i.e. the creation of peat. Only this natural activity can guarantee the sustainability of the site. At the same time, the municipality and its partners must create around the peat bog a tourist centre, creating local jobs.
