    Description of solution
    Summary (Challenges; Objectives)

The fertile plain of Saria Oeste, located in the inner estuary of the Oria, is a space included in the Natura 2000 Network and declared a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) Ría del Oria (Code ES2120010), for several of the habitats of interest it encompasses: Atlantic salt meadows (Code 1330) and alluvial forests of alder and ash trees (Code 91E0*). Despite the fact that this wetland has suffered from human intervention (draining and organic soil input for crops and overexploitation of fishing resources, elvers), it retains its own environmental characteristics of great interest which have been improved with the restoration project.

    Technical characteristics

The solutions adopted respond to a proposal for conservation measures for the Ría del Oria SAC: the recovery of the Saria marshland - removing dykes, opening channels and adapting slopes - and the creation of a freshwater lagoon. In addition, the reed beds have been preserved, invasive plant species have been eliminated and some poplar plantations that did not prosper have been removed. poplar plantations that did not prosper.
